  32. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
  33. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are required to
  34. register it (or purchase the licensed version as in the case of Paint Shop).

  36. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and retail software, and the
  37. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  38. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like retail
  39. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  40. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  41. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  42. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  43. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  44. copy their Shareware.

  47. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's retail or

  116.                     Installing Paint Shop
  117.  
  118. To install Paint Shop, follow these steps:
  119.  
  120.   Before you can use Paint Shop you have to run the setup program from
  121.   Windows so it will work properly on your computer. You cannot just copy the
  122.   files from the Paint Shop disk to your hard disk. The files on the
  123.   distribution disk are packed in a special way to save space. The setup
  124.   program unpacks those files and builds them on your working disk.
  125.  
  126.   1. Make Windows' "Program Manager" the active window.
  127.  
  128.   2. From Windows' "Program Manager", select "File", then select "Run".  This
  129.      will open the "Run" dialog box.
  130.  
  131.   3. Place the copy of Paint Shop in your floppy drive.
  132.      Now, the dialog box needs for you to type in the command that will run
  133.      the Paint Shop installation program.
  134.  
  135.      * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "A", type:
  136.               A:SETUP
  137.      * If your floppy disk goes in your Drive "B", type:
  138.               B:SETUP
  139.        Leave the "Run Minimized" box un-selected, and click the "OK" command
  140.        button.
  141.  
  142.   4. Fill in the required information in the dialog box.
  143.  
  144.      * It will ask you for the "Source Drive and Directory" designation where
  145.        your Paint Shop floppy disk is located.  (This is the same floppy
  146.        drive designation you typed in the previous step before the word
  147.        "setup".)
  148.  
  149.      * It will ask you for the hard disk "Destination Drive and Directory"
  150.        designation on which you want it to install Paint Shop.  It will
  151.        suggest a directory named "C:\PS".
  152.  
  153.        If you want the Paint Shop program files installed on a different
  154.        drive or directory, just click the pointer to the right of the
  155.        characters you want to change, backspace over the ones you want to
  156.        erase, then type in the new designation.
  157.  
  158.      * It will automatically build a Paint Shop icon and add it to
  159.        "Program Manager".  Accept the "Yes" (already selected by default) if
  160.        you do want it to do this.  Select "No" if you do not.
  161.  
  162.   5. Paint Shop Setup will unpack the necessary files and place them into
  163.      your directory.

  165.   6. Paint Shop Setup will notify you when the installation is completed.

  171. In order to keep the size of the Shareware version of Paint Shop
  172. reasonable no user's manual is provided. You will find that ALL menu items
  173. and associated dialog boxes, along with general information, is provided on
  174. line using the HELP-INDEX menu option of the program.
  175.  
  176. When you purchase the licensed version of Paint Shop you will receive a,
  177. fully illustrated, perfect bound User's Guide.
